What is Homemaker Home Health Aide Care?
A veteran’s initial assessment with a care provider as part of the program application process will play an important role in determining what services are offered via the VA. Surviving spouses and children of deceased military service members and veterans can get DIC or death pension benefits. These cash benefits for survivors include dependents indemnity compensation , accrued disability compensation benefits, and death pension. Please note, while the VA does not pay directly for assisted living, they may pay for additional services the veteran requires while living in the facility. To be clear, veterans who reside in nursing homes and assisted living residences are not eligible for this program. TRICARE for Life and CHAMPVA for Life may pay co-payments for short-term residents, although holders of these types of insurance are less likely to reside in CLCs. Veterans at no point receive cash or checks from CHAMPV for Life. In addition to care, CFL also covers some durable medical equipment and home care supplies. Applying for VA Standard Medical Benefits
We highly recommend signing up for Medicare when you are initially eligible. It expands your available medical options and can bring peace of mind if you have a lower VA priority level. For Medicare, you need to be a U.S. resident or citizen who has lived in the country for at least five years, along with being 65 years of age or older, or having specific health conditions. You can qualify for VA but not Medicare, or you might qualify for both. Respite care offers regular caregivers the chance to take a break from caring for patients.
For Medicare Part B, you might be automatically enrolled or you may have to sign up. There is a monthly fee for Medicare Part B, but it will be higher if you skip enrollment and then change your mind later on. The H/HHA Program is unique in that these extended care services are provided exclusively through non-VA providers in the community . Since the VA does not directly provide homemaker or home health aide services, any veteran seeking them qualifies for community care automatically. Assisted Living –CFL does not pay for assisted living or senior living care as defined by assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding or supervision of the cognitively impaired.
